Carried Forward

Artist Statement

In Carried Forward, I reflect on the traditions of the Yemenite Jewish people — my father’s community — whose customs and artistry trace back to the time of King Solomon. I honour and reimagine the traditions of Yemen, transforming what was once a way of life into moments of memory, resilience, and continuity.

Through this work, I explore what it means to inherit a culture that can no longer be returned to, yet continues to live through remembrance and reinvention. Carried Forward considers how traditions evolve as living practices — shaped by time, displacement, and the hands that keep them alive. Rather than fading into history, these memories become acts of preservation and renewal, carried forward into the present and beyond.
